Quotes & how I work

How do I get a quote?

Fill out the quote form with a few photos, or call or text (360) 888-4718. Photos let me price most jobs quickly. For bigger jobs I'll come out and look.

Are quotes free?

Yes. Always free, no obligation.

Who actually does the work?

I run every job myself. On bigger jobs I sometimes bring a helper I trust, and I'm the one you deal with from the quote to the cleanup.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Smart Exterior Care LLC is licensed and insured, and I can send a certificate of insurance if you need one.

Do I need to be home?

Usually not. I need access to the areas being cleaned and an outdoor water spigot, and I'll check in by phone or text.

What areas do you serve?

Bellingham and Whatcom County, down through Burlington, Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon on the mainland. I don't take island or Canada jobs.

Roofs & moss

Do you pressure wash roofs?

No. Roofs get a low-pressure soft wash so the shingles aren't damaged. Pressure washing is for concrete, decks and other hard surfaces.

Will the moss come back?

Eventually, this is the Northwest. Zinc treatment slows it down a lot, and keeping trees trimmed back helps too.

Is it safe for my roof?

Yes. Soft washing uses low pressure, so it doesn't strip granules the way a pressure washer does.

Do you install zinc strips?

I do zinc sulfate powder treatments on most jobs. Strip installs take more time and I quote them separately.

Soft washing

Will it damage my paint?

No. Soft washing is gentle on sound paint. If paint is already peeling, washing will show it, and I'll point it out before I start.

How long does a house wash take?

Most single-family homes take a few hours, depending on size, height and how much growth there is.

Is soft washing safe for my plants and pets?

Yes, with the right prep. I pre-wet plants, rinse afterward, and ask that pets stay inside while I work.

Gutters

Do you clean two- and three-story gutters?

Yes. Taller homes take more setup and are priced for it, but I do them.

Do I need to be home?

Not usually. As long as I can reach the property and you're reachable by phone, I can get it done.

Do you repair gutters?

I'll point out problems I find, like loose hangers or leaking seams. Bigger repairs I'll refer to a gutter company.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Under evergreens, twice a year: late fall and spring. Homes without trees overhead can usually do once a year.

Pressure washing

Will pressure washing damage my deck?

Not at the right pressure. I wash wood far gentler than concrete to avoid splintering.

Can you remove oil stains?

Washing lightens most stains. Old oil soaked deep into concrete may not come out completely, and I'll tell you up front.

Do you need my water?

Yes, I hook up to an outside spigot. Let me know if yours doesn't work.

Weather & scheduling

Can you work in the rain?

Light rain is fine for most jobs. Roof work gets rescheduled when it's icy or wet enough to be unsafe.

When's the best time to book?

Gutters: late fall. Roofs: late summer through spring when it's safe to walk. House washing: spring and early fall. The fall schedule fills up first.
